Regular WorldSBK photographers offer a special photo from their archive

The photographer: David Clarés

David Clarés turned towards sports photography very early in his professional career, and from there specialised himself in motorcycling competitions on a national and international level. From 2009 to 2016 he followed the Spanish national championship (CEV) and from 2010 to 2014 was present at many MotoGP™ events. He tells us: “In 2010 I only did races on the Iberian Peninsula, that is, the four Spanish races and Portugal; from the next year on I covered all the European Grand Prix. After that I received the opportunity to join the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship as an official photographer, and since then I’ve never looked back”. 2015 was his first year in World Superbike and upon landing in the paddock he got the opportunity to take the picture he has selected here. “Landing” also fits the scene to perfection.

The photo: A high-level anniversary

“I chose this picture for a very particular and special reason. I have always liked helicopters, and in my first year in WorldSBK, my first race, I was given the chance to fly in one and take this photograph. It might not be the best pic in the world, but it means a lot to me – aside from the fact that it illustrates the 25 years of the championship at Phillip Island. It all came together perfectly: the chance to ride on a helicopter (something I’d never done before), the opportunity to shoot a unique picture, and that SBK® anniversary in Australia”.
